Powerhouse - Thee American Revolution
Robert Schneider’s new “heavy-psyche” project. Killer song.
Hot Sprawl - Man/Miracle
LastFM tags this as highlife, which makes me think this is trying to latch onto what I guess is now a big bullshity trend. Still… it sounds good, the vocal remind me more of Bono than anything African, although the guitars definitely are trying to sound African – or at least like other indie rock bands that have been mining that sound lately.
Hurry Up And Wait - Nocando
Great use of negative space. I don’t listen to much hip hop so maybe that’s no big deal these days – but it sounds new to me and pretty cool. Very cool minimal production too.
Evelyn McHale - Parenthetical Girls
Croony, great vibrato. Reminds me in that way a little of Montreal genius Sean Nicholas Savage. But way more “American indie rock”, so has echoes of Shins, Strokes, and Marbles (great Apples’ Robert Schneider solo album).
Internet Warrior - Oh No Ono
Another killer Danish electronic pop song from Friendly Fire band Oh No Ono.
Helplessly Young - Oh No Ono
Great electronic pop band from Denmark. Out on Friendly Fire records.
Mysterious - The Splinters
Classic riot-grrrl/tee indie pop sound, maybe leaning a little towards the harder side of that sound – reminds me of Tuscadero more than any of those other bands.
The Beautiful Ones - Fol Chen
Prince cover from Spin’s Purplish Rain compilation. Nice!
Bead - Dinowalrus
Strange weirdo punk/disco/vintage electronica/whatever from Brooklyn. Compelling.
Darling Dear - Little Fish
What a voice! It sounds like this band is inevitably going to be the next big thing.
