Dr John - Dr John at the Halifax Jazz Festival

12 to 14 hours drive from the nearest sizeable city, Halifax Nova Scotia is not witness to many touring bands, but the folks at the Halifax Jazz Festival do their best to bring in a few big names each year. Dog Party - Lost Control

*Lost Control* from Sacramento's teen sisters Dog Party starts off strong with 'How Are You Doing', a bouncy song with a very catchy melody reminiscent of early Best Coast's sunny brand of California pop. The album tends a little less "pop" after that, until "I Can't Wait" – another strong, memorable track. "Why Don't You Tell Me" is another highlight, with a sound and lyrics that recall the Ramones. I saw Emika's set at Mutek Montreal 2013 and was very impressed. I've been listening to her Nina Tune album, DVA lot as a result. Bombastic; grandiose; pretentious; majestic; sexy; fragile; delicate: this music warrants a lot of adjectives.
